(Toronto) June 10, 2007 — The fifth annual Eastern Canada LeatherSIR/Leatherboy contest was held Saturday, June 9 in Toronto. Contestants vied to represent Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. boy Ryan, Eastern Canada Leatherboy 2007 Two contestants competed for Eastern Canada Leatherboy 2007. Winning the title was Ryan Tartaglio, 25, of Toronto. He stands six feet tall and weighs 170 pounds. Boy Ryan will advance to compete at the International LeatherSIR/Leatherboy contest October 5-8 (Canadian Thanksgiving/US Columbus Day long weekend) in Dallas, Texas. Also competing for the title of Leatherboy was Dan Madden, of Toronto. No contestants stepped forward to run for LeatherSIR. In the absence of contestants, regional producers within the next two weeks will appoint a LeatherSIR to represent the region and fulfill duties for the next year.
The contest opened with the inaugural “ECLSb Community Builder Award” which will be presented annually in recognition of dedication and service to the leather community. The recipient of the 2007 award was Black, aka Ian Turner, Bootblack Toronto 2002. Involved in the organized leather/SM/fetish community since 1992, Black is among the most respected leather community leaders in Toronto, a mentor of bootblacks and avid supporter of bootblack contests everywhere. The judging panel for the 2007 contest was: Don Leach, Great Lakes LeatherSIR 2002; Ron “cub” Tummon, Bootblack Toronto 2005 & President of Toronto boys of Leather (TboL); Sir Franco, Eastern Canada LeatherSIR 2006; Boy Jason, Eastern Canada Leatherboy 2006; and, Master Peter Kincheloe, of Toronto, director and head judge of MLT. Mr. Kincheloe replaced International LeatherSIR 2006 Master Kalan, who had to cancel his appearance due to unexpected travel problems. Returning for the third year as tallymaster was Matt Pavelich, of Toronto. Renowned leather emcee Tom Stice (International slave 1995 and Southeast Mr. Drummer 1998) hosted the contest. Mr. Stice also celebrated his 39th birthday during the event. The two contestants surprised him with party hats and a large chocolate cake, later served to the audience. Members of Toronto Boys Of Leather (TboL) provided assistance to judges and contest operations. This year’s contest theme was Edge Play (including but not limited to breath control, forced smoke, medical play, electricity, single tail, etc). Contestants were required to incorporate this theme into their contest fantasy scene. The contest also featured the official step-downs of Eastern Canada LeatherSIR 2006 Sir Franco and Eastern Canada Leatherboy 2006 boy Jason. Contest producers staged the event at a new venue, Goodhandy’s, which provided a large stage in a cabaret setting. The post-contest party was held at Black Eagle Toronto, which remains the home bar for Eastern Canada LeatherSIR / Leatherboy. Also included in the weekend events was a Meet & Greet on Friday night at the Black Eagle. Bootblack service was provided by Gene Harrack, North American Bootblack 2006. Festivities wrapped up with the infamous Sunday BBQ on the patio of the Black Eagle, hosted by Dart, Mr Black Eagle Toronto 2006.
